Lucid Nonsense

'I mean,' she said, 'that one can't help growing older.'.
"'One can't perhaps,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'but two can. With proper assistance, you might have left off at seven.'.

Here's a tip: If you're killing someone in the name of God — you're missing the message.

At some point, I hope to God that this is what Islamic communities will be.

Annoy a politician today – THINK

Just read this article about the US middle east policy as seen from the perspective of two former US policy experts who no longer work for the White House.

A perfect example of why I hate the current US administration.

What do you despise? By this are you truly known.

Right now, in the parking lot below my apartment, a bunch of people are filming some sort of TCS drama in which a young man gets beaten up. He's not very old and keeps screaming "Please don't beat me" in mandarin between sobs as his assailant shouts and kicks at him.

Initially, I was about to storm down and cuss them all out for domestic violence and call the police. I was most of the way out the door with the phone in my hand before I realized what was actually going on.

Even now, hearing all the shouting, whimpering and screaming as they shoot the scene over and over again, I keep wanting to go do something about it.

Listening to this is profoundly disturbing.

Ignore the propaganda. Focus on what you see.

Another new post on Flying High On the Ground. Also friends locked, this one is about the furor on livejournal due to it's recent decision to classify images of fictional minors engaged in sexual situations as child pornography. Let me know if you can't get in and I'll clear it for you.

I'll come and make love to you at five o'clock. If I'm late, start without me.

New post over on Flying High On the Ground. It's friends locked so let me know if you want to get in but can't and I'll clear you for it.

I hate my subconscious. It's like it has a mind of it's own.

This morning my husband woke me from a dream in which I was a Nazi agent killing people in the name of the Führer with a copy of Jane Eyre. It fired bullets when it was held like a gun. I'm also reasonably sure I was about to kill Radek Zelenka from SGA.

Weirdest. Dream. Ever.

sqbr, I blame you for the Bronte. All those debates from high school are coming back to haunt me until I go crazy and then they'll eat my brain.

Still, while I'm hanging on to my sanity by my fingernails, I may as well take the opportunity to ramble on about my life at the moment. It's quite appallingly domestic actually. I'm sure people should discover how surreal it is to find themselves doing laundry on a regular basis before they reach 25. I haven't had to iron shirts like this since I was in high school. The only thing I don't do is cook and that's only because my pots and pans haven't arrived from Perth yet. I keep having to squash the urge to make ramen.

Something I've noticed about Singapore: everyone wears crocs. Or rather, fake crocs. (I'm pretty sure real crocs don't cost $6 SGD a pair so, yeah, fake. All hail globalization!) Toddlers wearing crocs. Kids wearing crocs (now available in an eye-pleasing shade of purple!). Smiling, wrinkly, old bald men wearing crocs. Even I now have a pair. It's like being stalked by footwear. I'm just waiting for the toe ends to open up and show the sharp pointy teeth.

Now, since I'm home all day with an internet connection, I'm taking the opportunity to get back into fandom. (And no, Mandragora, I do NOT want more recs, I have more than enough for the moment!) Good God, I'd forgotten what it was like. I've always been a lurker by nature, tending to gravitate to archives rather than ongoing WIPs or forums but I haven't been able to avoid the Tsunami that is SGA. Personally, I blame livejournal. It makes pimping not only easy, but almost imperative. I found myself composing an academic paper on fandom in my head as I was falling asleep last week. Still, it's got benefits – when you have a bunch of like minded people all reading the same fandom it's helpful to have someone say "Yes! I remember the story you want, it's the one where…" when you can't remember either the title or the author. I've wished more than once for something like that in my other fandoms, particularly the ones where the stories I archived on my hardrive were deleted when my sys admin forcibly removed it while I was on holiday then wouldn't give it back.

Still, fandom is good. Makes it hard to resist the urge to stay home for the next year and read fic, but still, good.

It's a funny old world.

Okay. Second time I'm typing this up as my first post got deleted as the browser closed. I can't be bothered to write it up again so it's going to be much shorter than the initial rant.

Important things that have happened in my life lately!

  1. I got married
  2. I moved to Singapore
  3. I got my eye operation

The end! I'll type up the rest of the rant some other time...

Had a life. Traded it for a faster modem.

I have insomnia. I also have two new fandoms.

Anyone else besides me seeing the connection?

"Normal" is a setting on my washing machine.

Today I molded eggs.

This is way surreal. Does this make me a bento geek, I wonder.
